Gamecart vs Tebex: fees, payouts and features compared

How Gamecart and Tebex compare on commission, who holds the money, payout timing, payment methods, supported games and custom domains for server stores.

Tebex and Gamecart do the same job for a game server: sell ranks, items and access, take the payment and deliver the purchase in game. Where they differ most is how the money moves, and that difference shapes the fees, the payout timing and who deals with taxes. Every Tebex detail below comes from Tebex's own pages, listed at the end.

Warning

On FiveM the choice is already made. The FiveM documentation calls Tebex "the exclusive monetization partner of FiveM" and states that "the use of any other platform or payment provider is prohibited and is a violation of the Platform License Agreement". If you run a FiveM server, use Tebex. The rest of this comparison applies to Minecraft, Hytale and other games.

Fees

Tebex charges a platform fee on every transaction, on both the Starter and the Plus plan: 5% as the standard rate and 15% on FiveM. It is deducted from the transaction amount before taxes and gateway fees, and gateway fees come on top. Tebex lists PayPal at 2.49% + $0.40, and a 2.00% foreign exchange fee applies when you withdraw in a different currency.

Gamecart takes no commission. You pay for your plan, Free costs nothing, and your payment provider charges its usual fees, the same ones you would pay selling anywhere else with that provider.

On $1,000 of monthly sales on a Minecraft server, the Tebex platform fee is $50 before any gateway fee. On Gamecart that line is zero, and the fixed cost is the plan. Current plan prices are on the Gamecart home page.

Who holds the money

This is the real difference, and it cuts both ways.

Tebex works as a merchant of record. In its own words: "When you use Checkout, you are selling digital goods to Tebex. We then resell this content in our own right directly to consumers." That makes Tebex responsible for collecting and paying sales tax and VAT, and its seller protection defends eligible chargebacks for you. The other side is that the money passes through Tebex: the default settlement time is 14 days before you can withdraw it.

Gamecart never holds your money. Each payment goes straight to your own Stripe, PayPal, Mercado Pago or Pix account, and you are paid on that provider's schedule. The other side is that you are the seller: taxes and disputes are yours to handle, with the tools your provider gives you.

If you would rather not handle sales tax in several countries, the reseller model is worth its fee. If you already have a payment account and want the money without a settlement period, the direct model fits better.

Payment methods

Tebex runs the checkout and offers a wide range of payment methods, including Pix, Boleto Bancário and PicPay for buyers in Brazil.

Gamecart connects Stripe and PayPal in any store, and Pix (through Mercado Pago or Efí) and Mercado Pago in stores that sell in BRL. The Enterprise plan can also connect a payment gateway of your own. There are fewer methods, and each one pays into your own account. The setup for each provider is in the payment gateway guide.

Games and delivery

Tebex documents integrations for Minecraft Java and Bedrock, FiveM, Rust, Garry's Mod, ARK, Unturned, Hytale and more.

Gamecart has official connectors for Minecraft, Hytale and FiveM, and can deliver over RCON to Minecraft and Source engine servers with nothing to install. After an approved payment, it runs the commands you set for each product on your server. The server delivery guide shows each option.

If your game is not on Gamecart's list, Tebex covers more games today.

Domain and integrations

On Tebex, a custom domain requires the Plus plan. Tebex also documents webhooks for developers who want to react to payments.

On Gamecart, a custom domain comes with the Pro plan. The theme editor, the seller API, webhooks and custom payment gateways are part of the Enterprise plan.

Which one fits your server

  • FiveM server: Tebex, because the FiveM license requires it.
  • You want sales tax and chargebacks handled for you: Tebex.
  • Your game only has a Tebex integration: Tebex.
  • Minecraft or Hytale, with your own payment account: Gamecart, for no commission and no settlement period.
  • Selling in Brazil with Pix into your own account: Gamecart.
